What is Project Tango?

Project Tango is a proposed multi billion-dollar hyperscale AI data center complex in western Palm Beach County that has generated intense local opposition because residents believe a massive, 24/7 industrial facility requiring enormous amounts of electricity, water and cooling infrastructure should not be located near an elementary school, residential communities and environmentally sensitive water resources

Since December 2025, members of our organization have been actively engaged in the effort to stop Project Tango, a proposed hyperscale AI data center development in western Palm Beach County.

Our work began with a simple concern: communities deserve to understand how large-scale AI infrastructure may affect their homes, schools, environment, water resources, electrical grid, and quality of life before these projects are approved.

Since then, our members have worked to educate residents, research the proposed development, attend public meetings, engage with local officials, review planning and development documents, and bring greater public attention to the potential impacts of Project Tango.

We believe the conversation surrounding AI infrastructure must extend beyond technology itself. As data centers become larger and more widespread, communities need transparency, responsible planning, meaningful public participation, and accountability from the companies and institutions proposing these developments.

Our efforts surrounding Project Tango are part of our broader mission: to educate communities about the real-world impacts of AI, data centers, surveillance technology, and the increasingly powerful infrastructure behind the digital world—and to ensure that ordinary people have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their communities.

Project Tango: Our Work & Accomplishments

Standing Up for Community Accountability

Since December 2025, our members have been actively engaged in the effort to stop Project Tango and advocate for greater transparency, responsible development, and meaningful community participation in decisions affecting Palm Beach County.

Through grassroots organizing, public advocacy, research, and community engagement, we have worked to ensure that residents have a voice in the future of their communities.

  • Community Mobilization

Organized and hosted multiple community events and fundraising efforts to educate residents, build awareness, and mobilize opposition to Project Tango.

  • Public Advocacy

Participated extensively in Palm Beach County Commission and zoning hearings, providing public testimony and bringing community concerns directly before county decision-makers.

  • Zoning Commission Recommendation

Organized and advocated throughout the zoning process, contributing to a Palm Beach County Zoning Commission recommendation of denial of the developers’ proposal.

  • Holding Developers Accountable

Mobilized public opposition to proposed amendments sought by the developers. The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners ultimately voted against those amendments, requiring the developers to return through the application process.

  • Advocating for a Countywide Moratorium

Built sustained community and public pressure on county officials to consider a countywide, one-year moratorium on data center development, allowing time for Palm Beach County to evaluate the long-term impacts of large-scale data centers and establish appropriate safeguards.

  • Raising Awareness Beyond Project Tango

Elevated the conversation surrounding hyperscale data centers and their potential impacts on energy infrastructure, water resources, land use, schools, neighborhoods, environmental resources, and the long-term planning of Palm Beach County.

A Grassroots Effort With a Larger Purpose

Project Tango represents more than a single development proposal. It has become an opportunity for our community to ask larger questions about how rapidly expanding AI infrastructure is planned, regulated, and integrated into our communities.

Our work demonstrates what can happen when informed residents organize, participate in the public process, and insist that major development decisions include the people who will live with their consequences.

We believe communities deserve a meaningful voice in the future of the places they call home.
